Youth Drawing 1
Level up drawing skills, design original characters & create portfolio-ready artwork! Youth 11–17
Service Description
Classes are held on an ongoing basis on most Saturdays, 12PM-2PM. Start at any time! Does your teen love to draw? Are they always sketching characters, making their own comics, or doodling in the margins of their books? Do they dream of a career in art as an animator, illustrator, or comic book artist, or just want to improve their drawing skills? Then our 3-level Youth Drawing program will nurture their passion for drawing in our supportive studio environment! Level 1 builds strong drawing fundamentals through a proven layering method and an introduction to visual language. Students apply what they learn by developing an original character design from initial concept to finished illustration. They'll complete the course with artwork that’s meaningful, polished, and ready to include in a portfolio to apply to art school. All materials are included, including a sketchbook to fill throughout the 3-level program. Taught by Zen Rankin, a youth art instructor with over 15 years of experience. We offer an ongoing, flexible schedule: • Youth Drawing runs year-round with no fixed start or end dates. Classes are held most Saturdays, and students can begin at any time. There's no need to wait for a new session! • Drop into any class that fits your schedule, and take a week off whenever needed. • Students complete a weekly self-directed assignment supported by about 1 hour of video instruction, then bring their completed work to class for in-person feedback and coaching. What students will gain: • Strong foundational drawing skills used in comics, illustration, animation, and design • The ability to observe and construct accurate shapes, proportions, and forms • Skills to create and draw original characters from multiple angles • A repeatable drawing process that works for any subject • Improved use of line for expression, mood, and storytelling • A finished character design illustration ready to include in a portfolio • Confidence and creative support in a studio-style learning environment • A supportive space to grow their skills whether they just like drawing for fun, or are dreaming of a future career in art
