Youth Drawing 1 (Winter 2025)

Service Description

If the youth you know loves drawing and dreams of becoming an animator, illustrator or artist in the future then this course is a perfect start. Learn a more refined approach to drawing with the introduction of the time-tested layering principle, as well as an exploration into visual language. Students will be tasked with a career-focused project of developing an original character design from initial concept to final form. You'll finish the course with a finished character design illustration you'll be proud to include in your portfolio. Students will complete a self-directed homework project every week that is supported by approximately 1 hour of weekly video content, then bring their completed work to a 2-hour weekly in-person session for a group critique, followed by technique demonstrations and instruction. All materials are included, including a sketchbook to fill up during the 8-week course! Taught by Youth Instructor Zen Rankin. You’ll leave this course with: -Greater confidence in your drawing abilities and belief in your future in the visual arts. -An ability to see and draw the shapes and proportions of any subject you choose to draw with increasing accuracy. -Increased ability to draw your own or other’s characters from various points of view. -A strong foundational drawing methodology to follow that’s applicable to any subject. -Several ways to use line in order to express the mood of a scene and improve your overall artistic ability. -New friends to share your art with.
